Hello,
The weather was clear and
nice as 13 riders left Lost meadow. After loosing half
of the group at the second intersection we reviewed the
importance of making sure the person behind you knows
which way to go.
First thing we climbed to the
top of Mt. Clifty elevation 6345 feet. The view was
spectacular and from where we were every directions was
down.
We ran into some snow as
we came across Manashtash ridge and dropped down into
the Taneum side of the mountain. We stopped for another
short break at the Taneum hunting shelter then followed
the Taneum creek trail. Robert had to do some water hose
repair and refilled his radiator with creek water. We
got directions from other riders over there on how to
get around a section of trail that was closed for
logging.
Do you remember when the
2-strokes were the noisy bikes that couldn't go very far
without running out of gas? Not any more! by mile 45 the
4-strokes were running out of gas. Steve, Jay & Allen
were able to name any price they wanted for a water
bottle full of gas. We were in a valley on the other
side of the mountain range and the proud owners of these
bikes were not up to pushing their bikes back to camp.
We came through the
Taneum campground, near the Frost mountain lookout point
and back up to the top of Quartz mountain. For those
running out of gas (again) at least now we were on the
top and it was mostly down hill toward camp and they
were coasting, with the engine off, as much as possible.
Everyone made it back to
camp, most thoroughly exhausted, after having ridden
just over 8 hours covering 61 miles of high altitude,
narrow, rough, dusty trails in 90 degree heat. I forgot
to look for club stickers and there were no flat tires.
As for the stiff rope(s) if running out of gas counts
there are several people up for that honor. Ryan got
lucky, his sprocket was trashed and he reported the
chain slipping but he did make it back.
Thanks to all who came
over for the ride. I enjoyed it a lot and look forward
to the next time!

| Having
Trouble Seeing the Picture in your Browser??
I have not re-sized
the images so that members can save them to
their computers and print or use them as they
wish having the full quality photo available.
If your browser has the photo so large that it
is difficult to see, you can change your browser
settings to be able to see the photo on your
screen.
Using Internet Explorer, go to the top of your
screen and click on "Tools" - Then from the drop
down, select "Internet Options" - Then from the
tabs, choose "Advanced" - then scroll down to
the heading "Multimedia" and check the box
"Enable Automatic Image Resizing"
This should fix the problem. |
